Malaysian leaders have expressed strong support for India’s call to intensify global efforts in combating terrorism, following high-level discussions with an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation currently visiting Kuala Lumpur.
Led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, the Indian delegation met with Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of Malaysia’s House of Representatives, on Tuesday. During the meeting, the delegation reiterated India’s firm zero-tolerance policy on terrorism and emphasized the need for stronger parliamentary cooperation to counter the threat globally.
Speaker Johari welcomed India’s stance, reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to peace and regional stability. He thanked the Indian representatives for providing detailed insights into India’s counter-terrorism policy and its recent response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack under Operation Sindoor.
Jha later posted on X (formerly Twitter), “We conveyed India’s unwavering zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and highlighted the need for stronger parliamentary collaboration in the global fight against this menace… The Speaker appreciated India’s consistent approach in dealing with terrorism and welcomed continued engagement between the Parliaments of India and Malaysia.”
The Indian team also held discussions with Malaysia’s Parliamentary Special Committee on International Relations and International Trade, chaired by MP Wong Chen, where they again raised the issue of cross-border terrorism and briefed members about the recent Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
Further engagements included a key meeting with the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT), led by Director General Datin Paduka Nur Ashikin Mohd Taib. The dialogue focused on deepening cooperation in legal frameworks, counter-terror financing, enhancing community resilience, and strengthening joint studies on regional threats, especially those involving cross-border terrorism.
Jha lauded SEARCCT’s critical role in fostering regional counter-terrorism collaboration and emphasized its place within the India-Malaysia Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism.
The Indian delegation comprises MPs from across the political spectrum, including BJP’s Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, Hemang Joshi, and Pradan Baruah; TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee; CPI(M)’s John Barittas; senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid; and former diplomat Mohan Kumar.
Malaysia marks the final leg of the delegation’s multi-nation tour—which also included Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia—aimed at highlighting India’s Operation Sindoor and rallying international support against Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism.
